COPS DVD IS OUT!!
While concrete details are not yet known, it would appear that the C.O.P.S. animated series is destined to be released via DVD next February:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=4468
There are a couple of preorders:
Amazon
DVD Planet
It would appear from listings that Dic is licensing the DVD production to a company called Shout Factory (who has already produced a DVD with the first three episodes of C.O.P.S. on it). Currently, the Shout Factory website is only listing upcoming releases through January, so none of this is confirmed yet, but it certainly seems to be likely.
We'll keep you posted!

Rock on! Thanks very much for the update. Odd, I've been checking Shout's website on a pretty regular basis as well, but never saw a Press Release anywhere. At least it's out there now!

At least they're keeping the proper airdate order. Though I can't help but think COPS file #1 and #2 should be first... airdate order doesn't always follow production order.

Good call. I noticed that, too, but couldn't help but think at least a little swapping around wouldn't be a bad thing. I remember first watching the series back in the day and being confused, since it didn't really start at the beginning, so to speak.

I think it's really weird that the "origin" story wasn't shown first on TV. I wonder if it was delayed because they couldn't decide how to write Bulletproof's backstory. In the comics he got his cybernetic body following a near-fatal missile explosion. But the COPS TV show was very non-violent compared to recent cartoons (GI Joe, Transformers), so part of me thinks they showed episodes "out of order" until they decided on a less violent way for BP to sustain his injuries.
In the end, I think the cartoon story of BP is pretty stupid. He willingly runs alongside to a car going 50 mph or more, crashing into a brick wall? Uhhhhh......okaaaaaaaay... Even as a kid I thought that was dumb. But it's obviously less overtly violent than an deliberate missile attack.
Anyway, I'm probably way off base. I have no proof to back up this theory. Comic and cartoon stories usually don't share continuities.

It would not surprise me in the least if you're at least partially correct. I remember thinking how odd BP's origin was in the 'toon...I personally preferred the comic book accounts of what transpired, but you can't really expect the cartoon to show Bullet Proof getting slammed headlong with a missile. Still, I would have thought there might have been some other way to go about it.

The Batman TAS DVD boxsets followed production order. If they'd gone by airdate... it would have been a mess. "Cat and the Claw pt 1" aired months before part 2. The homicide boxsets also went production order. Law & Order season 1 did airdate... not too bad, except "Everybody's Favorite Bagman", set 2 years before the rest of the season, aired in the 6th episode.
Problem with production order is, they may not always get done in that order. Plus you have the network guys filling weekly time slots with no idea of what goes in what order sometimes.

Given a choice, I MUCH prefer production order over airdate personally. I suppose it's not a huge deal w/ COPS since they didn't always follow a strict, continual storyline over the season, but I've seen many a show butchered by terrible airdate selections (Firefly, anyone?). So, while it probably doesn't make a huge difference in the COPS world, production order would have been a strong preference to me.
It's odd, because the DVD that Shout! Factory already released with three COPS episodes on it featured the Case of the COPS parts 1 & 2, so you'd think they'd at least have that in mind...

Tomorrow is the day!! Unless something drastic changes in the next 12 hours, the official 4-disc DVD set should be released tomorrow.
Just re-watching the episodes I got from Sturm has gotten me fired up again, so I can't wait...
The cartoon section should get rolling soon!

You know...just like every time I look for a new release on a Tuesday, I'm going to stop in at Best Buy tonight after work, and they're not going to have it.
Eh, I'll get ahold of it soon enough.

C.O.P.S. DVD: The first 22 original episodes
I love it, bought it the week it came out. Ah, the memories... C.O.P.S. ranks in my top 5 favorite cartoons of all time.
